Club News 11th February 2020

U21 A WEST CORK FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1:

Following a hard fought second half,  in a game in which the wind played a huge part, Rangers are through to the West Cork U21 A Semi-final, following their victory over O Donovan Rossa in Union Hall on Saturday last, full time score, Carbery Rangers 2-08 O Donovan Rossa 0-10.

A game of two halves,  Rangers dominated the first , had the aid of the very strong wind  and needed the lead they had at half time  2-07 to 0-02. Araon O Brien pulled off an outstanding save ,goals from Kelan Scannell and Daragh Hayes aswell as well as excellent passages of play leading to well taken points, gave them what looked like a comfortable enough lead at half time.  But the wind ,was a telling factor, and in the second half it was the Skibb boys who were on top with Rangers getting just one point in the half. Rangers had chances in the second half including 2 goal scoring opportunities,  both of which went skimming  past the posts.

Team Aaron O Brien,  Peter Og Hill, Kelan Scannell,  Mark O Sullivan,  Diarmuid Kerr,  Cathal Hennessey,  Barry Kerr,  Mark Hodnett 0-02 F, Stephen O Donoghue,  Ciaran Calnan,  Patrick Hurley,  John O Brien,  JP Eady 0-01,   Daragh Hayes 1-04 (0-03 F),  Paul Hodnett 0-01. Subs Evan Browne , Cathal Keane.

Denis Hayes RIP
Carbery Rangers GAA Club  members and the community in Rosscarbery were saddened to hear of the death of club stalwart Denis Hayes this morning. RIP
Denis gave a lifetime of service to the club as a player, administrator, Scór Officer and one of our greatest supporters up to the time of his death.
He was an outstanding corner back on the successful 1955 Minor team St Fachtnas, (composed of players from Carbery Rangers and Kilmacabea ) that won the West Cork Minor Championship for the first time and went all the way to the county final only to lose out to Nemo Rangers. He also played Junior championship with the club in the 50’s and 60’s.
He served the club in various capacities from the 1950’s right up to the present. He was a most efficient and conscientious Runai of the club for many years and served as delegate to the West Cork Board where he was highly respected. He acted as the clubs Co-ordinator for the Cork GAA clubs draw and promoted this draw at every opportunity as he had a deep and lifelong interest in all county board matters and was a great supporter of all Cork teams and travelled with his family all over the country supporting them. He served the club and the West Cork Board as a Scor Officer and always had a keen interest in this aspect of the GAA.
In later years his family home became the headquarters for the club lotto where all GAA matters local and national were discussed, analysed and debated.
Denis was a true gentleman and will be a huge loss to the club but most importantly to his family, his late wife Betty RIP, daughters , Geraldine, Catherine and Deirdre and sons Anthony, Brendan and Denis RIP.
Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam dhilis.
John Murphy, Chairman Carbery Rangers Gaa Club.

CARBERY GAA/ BANDON COOP JUNIOR A WEST CORK FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL:On Sunday Carbery Rangers  faced Kilmacabea in the West Cork Junior A Football final in a very blustery Ardfield. The winners from 2017 and 2018 proved too strong for Rangers and so ended their & their management's great run in this year's championship. A gale force wind was with the Kilmac's in the first half and they quickly had four points to Rangers one after nine minutes. From then until the 19th minute  Rangers held them scoreless but they dominated the remainder of the half to have a commanding lead at half time, Carbery Rangers 0-01 Kilmacabea 0-12In the second half Rangers got off to a promising start but it was Kilmacabea's day and they were deserving champions at the final whistle . FT Carbery Rangers 0-07 Kilmacabea 1-18 Team Paul Shanahan Peter Hill Diarmuid Kerr Micheal Kelly Micheal O Mahony Stephen Murray Cian Daly Barry Kerr 0-01 Darragh O Mahoney Ciaran Calnan Kieran FitzPatrick Timmy O Donoghue Jp Eady Kevin McMahon 0-02 Paul Hodnett 0-04. CARBERY GAA BANDON COOP WEST CORK JUNIOR A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL:On Thursday last, Carbery Rangers reached the Final of the West Cork Junior A Football Championship when they overcame a highly fancied Argideen Rangers team in Caheragh under lights with a very impressive team display. At half time Rangers were 0-05 to 0-02 ahead and it was Argideen who started the second half better scoring two points to leave the minimum between them with 9 minutes gone in the second half. But a well worked Rangers move which ended with a goal from Kieran FitzPatrick proved to be the decisive score on the tenth minute as a tense final quarter saw Rangers hold on to win 1-06 to 0-06Team: Paul Shanahan Peter Hill Anthony Roche Micheal Kelly Diarmuid Kerr Cian Daly Stephen Murray Barry Kerr Darragh O Mahoney Ciaran Calnan Kieran FitzPatrick 1-01 Timmy O Donoghue 0-01 Jp Eady 0-01  Kevin McMahon Paul Hodnett 0-03  Subs Declan Hayes Micheal O Mahony Sean O Neill Mark Ronan Stephen O Donoghue.
