Under 21 Football, Glenville Cup / Scór News / Lotto

Under 21 Glenville Cup
The under 21 footballers had a good start to 2015 with a win over Ballingeary on Sunday last in the first round of the Glenville cup on a final score of 4-9 to 1-3.

In a close first half there was nothing separating the teams. With Sean Gordon scoring a goal for Ross to level the scores coming up to half time at 1-3 each. In the second half Ross began to dominate around the field and 2 goals from John Hodnett and a late Daniel Lane goal helped them to a good win on a final score of 4-9 to 1-3.

Scór News
The Carbery Rangers Scór AGM was held on December 17th with a full committee formed. The officers elected were Liam Hodnett as chairperson, Josephine Lynch as secretary and Denis Hayes as Treasurer.

The Scór na nÓg Leiriú group under the mentorship of Breda Hurley gave a great performance and narrowly missed out in the Munster Semi-Final held on Sunday January 4th in Cashel.

Rosscarbery Scór na bPaistí will be held on Sunday 25th January at 3pm in Lisavaird Hall. Entries on the day from 2.30pm for what promises to be a relaxed family afternoon.

Scór na bPaistí is a GAA competition that combines all the colour and rivalry of Gaelic Games with the fun element of Ireland’s traditional past-times. There are 11 competitions that cover all aspects of Irish culture. Figure Dancing, Set dancing, Solo Dancing, Sean nós dancing, Solo singing, Ballad Group, Recitation, Instrumental music group, Solo Instrumental music, Leiriú and Quiz. Under 21 Glenville Cup / Scor News

Under 21 Glenville Cup
The under 21 footballers had good win over Clann na Gael on Saturday last in the Glenville cup on a final score of 4-12 to 1-6.

Ross started the game well and by half time had built up a lead of 1-8 to 1-1, with John Hodnett getting the Ross goal. Clann na Gael came back into the game early in the second half and reduced the score to 3 points. Ross then got on top and scored three second half goals, two from Brian Hodnett and another from Davy O'Donovan to leave Ross leading at the final whistle on a score of 4-12 to 1-6.

They now meet the winners of Castlehaven and Nemo Rangers in the quarter final of this competition, this is currently fixed for January the 24th.

Glenville Cup
The under 21 footballers were beaten last Friday night in the quarter final of this competition played against Castlehaven, on a final score of 0-11 to 0-6. Castlehaven started the game well and with some good free taking, lead at half time on a score of 0-5 to 0-1. After half time, Ross began to reduce the lead and bought the score back to a 1 point game, but Castlehaven responded well and kicked the last few scores of the game to go through the semi final against Bantry. Scór na bPáistí
The entertaining and exciting Rosscarbery round of Scór na bPáistí was held in  Lisavaird Hall on January 25th. Well done to all individuals and groups representing who competed on stage and all the  mentors,family and friends who  prepared and supported them. Good luck to the Carbery Rangers and Ross Hurling club teams who will go forward and compete in the first West Cork Semi-final on Sunday February 1st in Ballydehob Hall at 2pm. The team representing Rosscarbery Ladies Football will go forward and compete in the second West Cork Semi-final on Sunday February 8th in Rossmore Theatre at 2pm.

Last Man Standing

Coaching Course / Upcoming Fixtures / St Fachtna's hurling / West Cork Draws / Lotto -

Coaching Course
Carbery Rangers GAA Club are holding a Foundation Level course on Thursday 26th of February in the club house Ardagh.  This Foundation Award is the introductory award for coaches of Gaelic Games. The course is aimed at beginner coaches and will enable participants to assist a coach in the organisation of activities to develop hurling or football. Any Club members that wish to undertake this course can contact Kevin Santry on 086-2672288 on or before the 20th of February. (Places limited)

Upcoming Fixtures
The senior footballers begin their defense of the Kelleher Shield on Sunday next, the 8th of February away to St. Finbarrs at 2.30pm. And the under 16's have their first league game of the year at home in Ardagh against Valley Rovers, again on Sunday the 8th of February. The time for this game is currently fixed for 3pm.

St Fachtna's hurling
Following the amaglation with Ardfield in underage hurling - training for under 8's and under 10's will be held on Tuesday nights; training for under 12's and under 14's on Wednesday nights; and training for the under 16's and under 18's on Friday nights. These trainings will all take place in the indoor hall in Ardfield. 

West Cork Draws
The under 21 football draws were made on Monday night last and Carbery Rangers were again drawn against Clonakilty in the West Cork under 21 A championship. And in under 21 hurling, Carbery Rangers were drawn against St. Mary's in the C championship.

The Junior hurlers got a bye in their first round. While in Junior D football Carbery Rangers were drawn against Dohenys in the first round, with the winners playing Clonakilty in the quarter final.

The Carbery Final of Scór na bPaistí was held on Sunday February 15th in Ballydehob Hall. Our local clubs have reason to celebrate as our local children represented their clubs so well with group performances.

Darragh Calnan, Seamus O Mahony, Kate Whelton, Mary Kate Hennessy, Ellen O’Hea, Sam Linehan, Lewis Murphy and Caolan Hayes under the mentorship of Fiona Calnan won first place in the Leiriú competition with a wonderful performance. They now go forward to the County semi final. Cian Barry, Conor Twomey and Eamon Hodnett under the mentorship of Sineád Barry scored very high in the Quiz and came in third place. While in the figure dancing Maeve Crowley, Caoimhe Calnan, Carla Duffy, Marines Ní Longphuirt, Emma Crowley and Ava Barry under the mentorship of Kay Duffy gave a wonderful performance. Conor Twomey, Eamon Hodnett, Cian Hayes, Nicole Hayes, Bríd Collins, Maeve Hodnett, Michael Maguire and Cormac Cuinea under the mentorship of Josephine Lynch and Liam Hodnett gave a powerful performance and narrowly missed out a place in the Leiriú competition. Michael O’Sullivan was an excellent Fear an Tí and ensured the whole day ran smoothly.

Under 21 Championship
Hard luck to the under 21 footballers who were narrowly beaten by Clonakilty in the first round of the West Cork under 21 championship in Castlehaven last Saturday night on a final score of 1-9 to 1-7. In an exciting game played in very wet conditions, Carbery Rangers played with the advantage of the wind in the first half and took the game to the defending champions with Tomás O'Rourke scoring 2 early points followed by a Brian Hodnett point. Then Carbery Rangers were awarded a penalty which Tomas O'Rourke finished to the net to give Ross a lead of 1-3 to 0-2. Cathal O'Rourke got the next score of the game to extend the Ross lead. Clon responded well to score the next couple of points against the wind. A free from Paul Shanahan and another point from Tomas O'Rourke completed the first half scoring, leaving the Ross lads leading at half time on a score of 1-6 to 0-6. An early goal for Clonakilty in the second half bought the scores level and with Clonakilty playing with a strong wind they got another two points, the Ross lads played well and reduced the score to a one point game with another Tomas O'Rourke point. Clonakilty got the last score of the game to give the win on a final score of 1-9 to 1-7, they now face Newcestown in the next round. Rebel Og Feile
Well done to the under 14 footballers who participated in the Rebel Og feile that was played on Saturday and Sunday last weekend. On Saturday in Aghabullogue they had good wins over Ibane Gaels, Newcestown and Aghabullogue in the first three games. Then in the final group game they played Bishopstown to decide who would qualify out of their group for the quarter final stage. In an exciting game they were a goal down at half time, but in a great team display they won out by a single point to qualify for the quarter final stage on the Sunday. In the quarter final played on Sunday the team lost to Nemo Rangers who went on to win the tournament, overall it was a great team performance by all involved. Well done to the team, mentors and all involved with the team. ScorOn Friday 6th of March the Rosscarbery Hurling club qualified for the County Final in the Leiriu section of Scor na Paisti. Their play Tir na Og written by Breda Hurley will battle it out this Saturday the 21st of March in Ovens, in a bid to capture the County Title in their category. Junior FootballersThe Junior A’s had their first outing for the year on St Patrick’s Day travelling to Drimoleague. Rangers opened brightly and lead at the interval by 1:05 to 0:3. The home side rallied in the second half and with 10 minutes remaining had the lead brought back to one point. Rangers managed to get on top again to run out winners on a somewhat flattering score line of 2-10 to 0-08 with Sean Gordon getting a late goal. County Scór na bPáistí Final 2015Hard luck to the Scor act who were unsuccessful in the County Final last Saturday in Ovens despite a great performance. The cast members were Darragh Calnan, Caolan Hayes, Ellen O’Hea, Mary Kate Hennessy, Sam Linehan, Lewis Murphy, Seamus O’Mahony and Kate Whelton and mentor Fiona Calnan. All the participants can be very proud of their performance and were a great credit to the club. Well done to all our senior Scór members who performed admirably in the County Final of the Solo Singing, Ballad group, Recitation, Leiriú and Quiz recently. Well done to Con O' Callaghan came second with his powerful Graveside Oration for O'Donovan Rossa and also to the Leiriú group also placed second. With that the curtains came down on Scór 2015.

The minor footballers had thier first outing of the year on Saturday last and it ended in a disappointing defeat to Bandon. Ross started brightly and the in-form John Hodnett scored two first half goals for Ross with good contributions from Micheal O Mahony, Jack Christie, Cathal O Rourke, David O Donovan and John Hodnett. The second half was close with the sides level more than once but Bandon scored a late goal to win by four points on a final score of 2-7 to 2-11.

The senior footballers travelled to Mourneabbey on Sunday last to take on Clyda Rovers in the Kelleher Shield. In a close first half, Rangers had a one point lead at half time on a score of 0-5 to 0-4. Ross started the second half well and added 1-5 in the first fifteen minutes of the half while restricting Clyda to no score during that time, with Alan Jennings get the Rangers goal. Clyda responded well but Ross went on to win the game on a final score of 1-12 to 0-10.

Senior Footballers
The senior footballers were in Kelleher Shield action on Friday night last against Newcestown in Rosscarbery. In an closely contested game, a last minute point from center back Padraig Hodnett gave Ross a one point win on a final score of 1-10 to 1-9.

Newcestown had the better of the first half and held the lead at half time on a score of 1-7 to 0-5. Ross came more into the game in the second half with a Kieran Fitzpatrick goal helping to reduce the lead. With time almost up, a well taken free from Seamus Hayes levelled the score and then in the last minute of the game, a well worked move saw Padraig Hodnett getting the winning score to give Ross a good win on 1-10 to 1-9.

Senior Football Championship
Hard luck to the senior footballers who were beaten by Valley Rovers in the first round of the senior championship on Monday night last in Ballinascarthy on a final score of 2-10 to 0-14. They now await the losers of the Castlehaven and Clyda Rovers game in the next round.

Ross started the game well and lead at half time on a score of 0-10 to 0-5. Ross were unlucky to lose both midfielders Michael Mennis and James Fitzpatrick early in the game to injuries. In the second half Ross were in control of the game and with 10 minutes to go were leading by 6 points. But a Valleys goal and points reduced the lead to a single point with time up and in a hectic finish to the game the referee awarded a penalty to Valley Rovers. Paul Shanahan saved this but the rebound fell nicely to the Valleys forward who punched home the goal to leave Ross trailing by 2 points with time up, final score 2-10 to 0-14.

Senior Football Championship
Well done to the senior footballers who had a good win over Clyda Rovers in Coachford last Sunday and are now into the fourth round of the senior football championship on a final score of 1-7 to 0-8.

Ross played against a strong wind in the first half and points from Seamus Hayes, Kieran Fitzpatrick and John Hayes left the Ross lads trailing at the break on a scoreline of 0-5 to 0-3. Declan Hayes and Seamus Hayes had the opening two points of the second half, then good work from Declan and John Hayes ended up with Declan finishing to the net to get the all important goal. Clyda then fought back to get a few points to level the game, but Ross responded well with points from James Fitzpatrick and Chris O'Donovan to give Ross a win on a final score of 1-7 to 0-8.

Well done to the under 15 footballers who won the under 15 blitz held in Skibbereen on Saturday May 30th. On the day they played four games and won all four, in the first game they faced Ilen Rovers and won on a score of 1-7 to 2-1; then they played Dohenys and won on a score of 1-8 to 0-3. In the third game against Ahan Gaels, they won 1-4 to 1-0 and in the final game they played Ballingeary and won well scoring 1-8 in the process. They now have qualified for the Munster finals, which will be held in Mallow on Saturday June 13th.

They also got a tour of the stadium, including including dressing rooms and warm up area. St Fachtna’s Under 16 Hurlers secured their position in the final of the Rebel Og West Cork A Hurling Championship by over coming Ahan Gaels in Rossmore on Sunday last. A thrilling match from start to finish with a final score of 2-8 to 0-10 points. The match was extremely tight from start to finish and there were strong performances on the day. This win is a huge credit to the players and mentors of St Fachtna’s on their first season formed to get to the West Cork  final. The backs were outstanding and the skill and determination from the entire team was a pleasure to watch. Well done to the under 10 footballers who beat Ilen Rovers in the semi final of the Joe O'Regan cup last Thursday on a score of 4-3 to 1-3. They then played hosts Castlehaven in the final on Sunday morning in Union Hall. In an classic encounter the Ross lads lead at halftime on a score of 1-1 to 0-3, but Castlehaven responded well to score two early goals in the second half to help them into a 7 point lead. Then it was the turn of the Carbery Rangers lads, who showed great courage to fight back to a draw the game at full time. Extra time of 5 minutes a half was played, in an exciting finish to the competition, Carbery Rangers kicked the equalising point with the last play of the game. The cup was shared between the two teams, the final score was Carbery Rangers 3-06, Castlehaven 2-09. The junior footballers were beaten by Muintir Bhaire last Saturday night in Union Hall in the West Cork Championship, Ross started well and had the first score on the board, a point from Brian Hodnett. Mhuintir Bhaire then got in on the scoring to register 1-5 before midfielder Michael O'Sullivan got the second Ross point of the half to leave Ross trailing at half time on a score of 1-5 to 0-2. Second half points from John O'Rourke, James Kinston and Eoin Lane left the final score 1-9 to 0-5 in favour of Mhuintir Bhaire.

The senior footballers had great win over Ilen Rovers last Saturday night in Skibbereen in the 4th round of the senior football championship on a final score of 4-10 to 1-4. The Ross lads played with a high intensity throughout the game and goals in the first half from Alan Jennings and John Hayes and four points also from John Hayes, two from Alan Jennings along with a point from Seamus Hayes left Ross in a commanding lead at half time on a score of 2-7 to 1-3 after playing against the elements. It took a while for the scores to come in the second half but two more goals from Kieran Fitzpatrick and John O'Rourke along with points from John Hayes, John O’Rourke and Seamus Hayes completed the scoring for the night. They now await the winners between Newcestown and Duhallow in the quarter final stage. Under 14 County final
Well done to the under 14 footballers who had an excellent win over Cobh in the final of the Premier 2 County final, in front of a big crowd in Riverstick on Monday night on a final score of 6-5 to 2-5. The opening point of the night came from Captain Paul Hodnett, Eoghan Hayes quickly added another in the third minute. Then goals from Evan Browne and Paul Hodnett along with a pointed free from Jack O'Regan helped the Ross lads into a half time lead on a score of 2-3 to 0-3. It was a case of more of the same in the second half with Jack O'Regan adding two more pointed frees, and then four goals from Eoghan Hayes, Killian Keane, Paul Hodnett and Evan Browne completed an excellent night for the Ross lads. This was a great team performance, with all members of the team adding to the win on the night; hopefully we will have plenty more success in years to come from this group of players. Following on from the success of the under 14 footballers in winning their premier 2 football championship the previous night. This team sent out a clear message of intent to their opponents by scoring two early goals from team captain John Hodnett and they then continued in this vein up till half-time, where they lead on a score line of 2-6 to 1-4. In the second half they consolidated their position, before a third goal from John Hodnett and a flurry of late points ensured that they emerged victorious on a score of 3-12 to 1-10. Well done to the under 21 hurlers who played Randal Og in the West Cork championship semi final in Ahiohill on Wednesday August 26th and had a very impressive win on a final score of 7-14 to 2-9. Ross played with a strong wind in the first half and led 2-8 to 0-5 at the short whistle. In the second half Randals came more into the game but great defensive work by Eamonn O Mahony, Cian Daly and goalkeeper Jack O Donoghue held them at bay. While some great goals at the other end from Brian Hodnett, Rob Hegarty, John Hodnett and Dave O'Donovan ensured a comfortable win for the Ross Lads. Senior Footballers
The senior footballers had great win over Duhallow last Sunday in Pairc Ui Rinn in the quarter final of the senior football championship on a final score of 1-16 to 1-7.

Ross started well and had 1-6 on the scoreboard before Duhallow registered their first score, with John O'Rourke getting the Ross goal. Ross lead at the half time break on a score of 1-8 to 0-2 and were in control all over the field. The only negative was the injury to midfielder James Fitzpatrick who had to go off after 15 minutes. In the second half Duhallow came more into the game, but the sending off of Donncha O’Connor midway through the half ended the game as a contest. Some excellent point scoring from John O'Rourke, Kevin MacMahon and Alan Jennings helped Ross to a good win on a final score of 1-16 to 1-7.

They are now into the county semi final and will play Nemo Rangers on October 4th in Pairc Ui Rinn.

Under 16 Footballers
The under 16 footballers had a great win over Midleton in the semi final of the premier 2 county championship on Saturday evening last September 19th, in Riverstick on a final score of 4-10 to 3-6.

The Ross lads started well and took an early lead with points from Fintan Barrett and John Hodnett. This was then followed up by a goal from Paul Hodnett, who also scored the second goal of the game just before half time after some good work with John Hodnett. A fine double save from John Paul Eady prevented a Midelton goal and a well organised defense kept the Midleton forwards to four first half points. With the team now on top, points from Fintan Barrett, John Hodnett, Patrick Hurley and midfielder Mark Hodnett completed the first half scoring to leave Ross leading at half time on a score of 2-6 to 0-4. In the second half two more goals from Mark Hodnett and John O'Brien along with two points from both Christ Prendergast and John O'Brien and another from John Hodnett were enough to withstand a late rally from the Midleton lads who scored three goals to reduce the lead. The Ross lads went on to win on a final score of 4-10 to 3-6 and are now into the county final, this game has yet to be fixed.

The junior footballers played their last league game of the year against Timoleague on Sunday morning, this was a low scoring game with Ross leading at the break on a score of 0-3 to 0-2. A second half goal put Timoleague in front but Ross responded well to level the scoring. The game finished in a draw with both sides sharing the points on final score of 0-6 to 1-3. Under 16 County Final
Congratulations to the under 16 footballers who had a brilliant win over St. Michaels in the Premier 2 County final last Saturday evening, winning out on a final score of 2-14 to 1-5. The Ross lads had a great start to the game with Christopher Prendergast getting the first three points. this was then followed by a Paul Hodnett goal. Further points from John O'Brien, John Hodnett and Patrick Hurley, along with two from Mark Hodnett gave the Ross lads a comfortable lead at half time on a score of 1-8 to 0-1. Then in the second half it was more of the same from the Ross with Paul Hodnett getting his and Ross' second goal of the game, while both Mark and John Hodnett scored three points each. St. Michaels scored a penalty late in the game, but Ross kept up the work rate throughout the whole team to give them a historic win on a score line of 2-14 to 1-5. This was a great team performance and well done to the panel and management involved in this great win. Under 15 Footballers
The under 15 footballers played Sam Maguires in the Premier 2 Championship semi-final in Ballinascarthy on Sunday last, losing out on a final score of 0-8 to 1-13. The Ross lads started well and points from James O'Riordan, Paul Hodnett, Darragh Hayes and John O'Brien put them into four point lead before Sam Maguires kicked two points to reduce the lead to two points with 15 minutes played. Another point from Darragh Hayes and a pointed free from Paul Hodnett was then followed by both sides swapping points, with Darragh Hayes getting the Ross score from a free. This was the last Ross score of the half where Sam Maguires finished strongly to score the last fours point to level the scoring at 0-7 points each at the break.

The second half started well for the Ross with Darragh Hayes pointing a free but from Sam Maguire responded well and went on to win on a final score of 1-13 to 0-8. Hard luck to all involved. The senior footballers travelled to Dunmanway last Friday night to play Castlehaven under lights in the semi final of the Kelleher Shield and on a wet night Castlehaven's first half goals proved to be the difference, with Ross going down on a final score of 4-12 to 1-11. Ross started well and took an early lead with points from Kevin MacMahon, John Hayes and two from Seamus Hayes, Castlehaven reponded with two points before they got their first goal of the game, they went on to score three more goals in the half to lead at half time on a score of 4-7 to 0-5. Under 16 Footballers
Hard luck to the under 16 footballers who were beaten by Mallow after extra time by a single point on Sunday morning last in Macroom in the semi final of the premier 2 league on a final score of 3-13 to 5-6. Goals from Darragh Hayes, Eamon Shanhan and Mark Hodnett in the first half gave the Ross boys a lead at half time on a score of 3-5 to 0-4. After the break Mallow scored 3 goals with Cathal Hennessy getting the fourth Ross goal of the game. With Ross leading by a point with time almost up, Mallow equalised to leave both teams level after normal time on a score of 4-6 to 3-9. Extra time was played with the Ross lads losing out by a single point on a final score of 3-13 to 5-6. Mark Hodnett scored the Ross goal in extra time from the penalty spot. Under 14 West Cork Cup Final - Club AGM - Change of Date / Lotto / Upsoming Fixtures
Under 14 West Cork Cup FinalCarbery Rangers under 14 footballers played Sam Maguires on Thursday night last in Dunmanway in the final of the West Cork Cup, with the Ross lads winning out on a final score of 3-10 to 1-7. In an entertaing game, a John Patrick Eady goal midway through the first half put the Ross lads into a lead of 1-3 to 0-2 with Jack O'Regan, Eoghan Hayes and John Patrick Eady getting the Ross points. Sam Maguires responded well to this and went on to have the better of the rest of the half to lead at the break on a score line of 1-3 to 1-6. Then in the second half the Ross lads took control of the game and three quickly taken points from Ciaran Calnan, Jack O'Regan and Evan Browne levelled the score at 1-6 each. Jack O'Regan then got two more points before Ray Shanahan struck for the second Ross goal of the game. Evan Browne then got in on the scoring registering a point before Jack O'Regan got his fifth point of the game. And with 3 minutes left ion the game an Evan Browne goal sealed victory for Carbery Rangers, on a final score of 3-10 to 1-7. Well done to all involved adding this to the Premier County title that they won earlier in the year. Club AGM
The Carbery Rangers GAA Club AGM was held on Friday night last in the Celtic Ross hotel. Chairman Michael Connelly got the meeting underway by thanking all who came to the meeting and also by thanking those who helped in the running of the club during the past year. These included officers, trainers, selectors, players, supporters, sponsors, those who sold lotto tickets or helped in hosting games and all who contributed in any way in making the past year successful. Also, special mention was given to the underage footballers, with the under 14's and under 16's both winning County Premier 2 finals during the year, along with the various other leagues and Cups won in 2015. Secretary Liam O'Shea then addressed the meeting by giving a very detailed account of how all the teams performed in their competitions during the year.

This was by then followed by the treasurer’s report and club treasurer Robert Creedon gave an account of the financial side of the club.

A healthy debate was held on all club matters, followed by the election of the new officers.

Robert Creedon stepped down as club treasurer and Denis Calnan was elected treasurer for the coming year. The club would like to thank Robert for his excellent work and his commitment to the club during his time as treasurer.

Hard luck to the under 14 footballers who lost out to Castlehaven in the Premier 2 county league final played in Rosscarbery on Sunday last, the final score was 5-8 to 3-4. Cillian Keane opened the scoring with a point for the Ross lads, then midway through the half goals from John Patrick Eady and Paul Hodnett had the Ross lads leading on a score of 2-1 to 1-1 with Castlehaven's goal coming from a penalty. Castlehaven then went on to score 1-3 before Paul Hodnett scored a good point from play and John Patrick Eady got the last score of the half to leave the Ross lads trailing at half time on a score of 2-3 to 3-6. In the second half a goal from Evan Browne and a point from Eoghan Hayes kept the Ross score ticking over, but they eventually lost out on a final score of 5-8 to 3-4.
