Senior Football
Carbery Rangers and Newcestown must meet again after they played out an exciting draw in the Quarter-Final of the Senior football Championship on Saturday last. Ross was quicker to settle and after ten minutes were leading by three points, these scores coming from John Hayes, John O’Rourke and Brian Shanahan.
At the twenty minute point Ross lead by 0-5 to 0-2 but Newcestown finished the half stronger with four unanswered scores to leave them ahead at the break 0-6 to 0-5.The second half was to be a very closely contested thirty minutes. Brian Shanahan leveled the game straight from the restart, then James Fitzpatrick kicked a great free to put Ross one up. In the forty minute Newcestown scored the only goal of the game, but two points by John Hayes who was now turning on the style leveled it again. Points were exchanged to leave the score 0-10 to 1-7 the Ross score coming from the very impressive Micheal O’Sullivan. Declan Hayes was unlucky not to goal for Ross when he went on a solo run and his powerful shot coming back off the Newcestown crossbar.
With one minute of normal time left Newcestown inched ahead by a point, but this Ross team has been through the mill over the years and knew that their was plenty of time to level it again.  Then six minutes into  injury time Ross were awarded a free near the forty-Five meter line and up came the ever cool John Hayes to score and send the game to a replay, this free will live long in the memory of those at the game as this was what you call a pressure kick. FINAL SCORE Carbery Rangers 0-12 Newcestown 1-9.

Noel O’Donovan added a point from the first Ross attack of the second half, but the Haven got themselves back in the game with a goal and three points with out reply. Conor McMcarthy, who on the night along with Paul Shanahan were Ross’ best on view, pointed two frees to keep them in it.
