Under 21 Championship
Hard luck to the under 21 footballers who were narrowly beaten by Clonakilty in the first round of the West Cork under 21 championship in Castlehaven last Saturday night on a final score of 1-9 to 1-7.
In an exciting game played in very wet conditions, Carbery Rangers played with the advantage of the wind in the first half and took the game to the defending champions with Tomás O'Rourke scoring 2 early points followed by a Brian Hodnett point. Then Carbery Rangers were awarded a penalty which Tomas O'Rourke finished to the net to give Ross a lead of 1-3 to 0-2. Cathal O'Rourke got the next score of the game to extend the Ross lead. Clon responded well to score the next couple of points against the wind. A free from Paul Shanahan and another point from Tomas O'Rourke completed the first half scoring, leaving the Ross lads leading at half time on a score of 1-6 to 0-6.
An early goal for Clonakilty in the second half bought the scores level and with Clonakilty playing with a strong wind they got another two points, the Ross lads played well and reduced the score to a one point game with another Tomas O'Rourke point. Clonakilty got the last score of the game to give the win on a final score of 1-9 to 1-7, they now face Newcestown in the next round.
