Senior Football Championship

The senior footballers had a very good win over Aghada in the first round of the senior football championship in Pairc Ui Rinn last Sunday winning on a final score of 5-17 to 0-3.

Ross played with the wind in the first half and were quick to settle with a points from John Hayes, Alan Jennings and Seamus Hayes, Aghada also got two points early on, to leave Ross winning by a single point with almost 15 minutes played. Ross began to dominate all over the field and in the last 15 minutes of the first half Ross outscored Aghada 3-7 to no score to leave Ross leading at half time on a score of 3-10 to 0-2.

A point from distance from Brian Shanahan was followed by good work from Declan Hayes which resulted in a Ross turnover and Seamus Hayes slotting home for the first goal of the game. Three quick points from John O'Rourke, Seamus Hayes and Brian Shanahan helped Ross build on their lead. Declan Hayes then scored the second goal after he was on the end of a good pass from John Hayes. After that another point from Declan Hayes, a goal from a John Hayes penalty after Declan Hayes was brought down in the square and a further point by Seamus Hayes and Kevin MacMahon finished off the first half with a good point from distance.

Aghada started the second half well but great defending by all the Ross backs and super blocks from Anthony Roche and Micheal Kelly prevented them from registering a score until the 58th minute. At that stage the game was over as a contest, as two second half goals from John Hayes and the hard working Chris O'Donovan along with points from Kevin MacMahon, Chris O'Donovan, Brian Shanahan, Alan Jennings and three points from John Hayes left Ross winning on a final score of 5-17 to 0-3.
