CARBERY Rangers GAA Club held their AGM recently In the Celtic Ross Hotel and this well-attended meeting was chaired by Denis Calnan, who gave a detailed account of the club's activities during the year in which West Cork titles at U12 and U16 levels were brought back to the club. Also the club congratulated players involved in various Cork teams throughout the year, which included senior All-Ireland medals for John Hayes and Kevin McMahon. a Munster minor medal and an All-Ireland appearance for John O'Rourke. Other Carbery Rangers players acknowledged for being part of Cork teams are Paul Shanahan, Thomas O'Rourke and Sean O'Regan, who all were on the Cork U16 team, and Darnien O'Brien, the representative on the Cork U14 team. The following officers were elected for the coming year: Chairperson Kevin Santry, vice chairperson Michael O'Rourke, Secretary Brendan O'Sullivan, Treasurer Seanie Collins, and PRO Mike Keohane. The outgoing chairperson, Denis Calnan, was thanked for his huge commitment to the club in his role over the last few years while Fin Hayes was also thanked for his contribution as PRO to the club.
St Fachtna's made their exit from the minor hurling championship on Sunday last when they went down to Clyda Rovers. Playing against the wind, Fachtna's started well with a well-taken goal by corner forward John O'Sullivan after seven minutes. However, some well-taken scores of their own, including a goal, put Clyda Rovers ahead by five points at half lime. Playing with the breeze in the second half. Fachtna's tried to up their game. Another goal by John O'Sullivan as well as some pointed frees by Ronan Milner kept them in touch but two goals for Clyda Rovers edged them away from the Fachtna's challenge and they ran out winners on a score of 3-12 to 2-9. This was another successful year for this team, which is a combination of players and mentors of Carbery Rangers and Kilmacabea, so well done on bringing silverware in the shape of the West Cork Cup.
